MUSHROOM
PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES
Women mushroom farmers in Zimbabwe
are celebrating an experiment that has gone well. Thanks to training provided
by Stellenbosch University, the women who come from the town of Livingstone
have increased production and earned more money.
The technique consists of combining
modern spawn technologies with local materials such as grass. The type of
mushroom produced through this method is the white bottom which has proved to
be good for home consumption and sale. This story was reported in SPORE
magazine, the bi-monthly publication of the Technical Centre for Agricultural
and Rural Cooperation based in the Netherlands.
