LEKIE
DIVISION COCOA FARMERS SMILE
Cocoa farmers in Lekie Division of
Cameroon`s Centre Region have found a way of boosting cocoa farm yields. The
method consists of planting oil palms on the same land where they are farming
cocoa. The result has been a record 67 per cent increase in yields.
The technique which was devised by
the National Institute of Agricultural Research for Development (IRAD) requires
that “farmers allow some 4 m between rows of each crop and 3X3 m gap between
cocoa rows with supplication of appropriate plant health treatment”, SPORE
magazine explains.
