IS PRIME MINISTER YANG FINISHED? (Part 2 OF 2)
Based on these
results, the prime minister may go. Even so, there are other factors that work
against him. Yes, he has been hard working. But he also has grey areas. He is
perceived as being “too much of a gentleman”. There have been inconveniences
such as water and power cuts which could have led him to slam his hand on the
table and say, “enough is enough”. He did not. When floods in the Far North
Region affected parts of the region, he was not much heard sympathizing. Right
now, there is a conflict raging between Arts and Culture Minister Ama Tutu Muna
and Ndedi Eyango who was elected head of the Music Authors` Rights`
Corporation. The problem is that although the election took place with the
approval of the minister, she turned round and annulled them because as she put
it, she had received reports that Eyango had double nationality.
Yang is not
good at public relations. He must accept that after two decades in Canada, he
is back in Cameroon. He should stop drawing comparisons such as “We don`t do that
in Canada”. He should understand that when hungry Cameroonians come to him,
they need food, even if they do not say so. They do not need a discourse on
philosophy. Yang should open up his doors to Cameroonians as much as possible,
receive them, chat with them and listen to them. He should understand that when
he is invited to a function and it begins late, he must not be angry and storm
out but be patient and help the people to get to the point where he is. He
should know that when traditional rulers take time out to pay him a visit, he
should treat them with courtesy.
The prime minister has a temper problem and
when he is angry he can lose control of himself and insult people. He needs to
address the issue, perhaps through his pastor. Also, he tends to prefer flatter
to criticism. No, he should be open to criticism because criticisms make the
person criticized to grow.
However, Biya
may still keep him as Prime Minister. After all, if election results were criteria
for shuffling ministers, Ama Tutu Muna and Atanga Nji Paul would have been
sacked in the shuffle that followed the last presidential election in 201.
Instead, the president maintained them.
THE END
Great insight on the PM's issue. I really do admire your write ups and you are great inspiration to many.
