REMEMBERING AMERICA`S WAR OF INDEPENDENCE
We have been thinking about it
In Detroit, in Alabama and in New Jersey
We have thought long and hard
We have spent sleepless nights over it
Yet we can`t still put a finger on it
Right now, we feel like hapless and beleaguered couples
Marooned in the middle of the ocean
For no good reason.
If Adrian were here
And the Californian coast was clear
Even if the federal flag were flown at half mast
Things might be different
But if George III and Lord North were the next
There would still be a stalemate
Because the king would insist it was all a mere skirmish
While we were sure it was a civil war we would win.
