WHICH IS THE RIGHT ONE?

think with me. Let us approach this hypothetically. I buy something from you.
It costs six hundred francs and I give you a thousand franc note. That means you
owe me four hundred francs.
How do you
call the amount you are supposed to give me? Is it “change”, or “balance” or
difference”? I have looked up the three expressions in the dictionary but I am
still confused.

you say?
