THE LAST WISH OF A DYING MAN

He breathed like a flogged horse
Then his body went lifeless as we looked, helpless
We stood there, challenged
Should we call his wife?
Or the ambulance?

Suddenly, a boy came, speeding on an Okada
He stooped in front of us and gave us and envelop
It read: “If I die while still here,
Say the Lord’s Prayer and just leave me alone”.

We looked at each other
In utter bewilderment
And went our separate ways

Without saying a word.
