THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
NEEDS MORE PASTORS
The Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC) is in search of
more pastors, according to a statement read to PCC congregations during service
on Sunday, 4 May 2014. The release was jointly signed by Ba Nkom Raymond Gwanyalla
and Elder Dr. G. Assam, on behalf of the Friends of the Theological Seminary in
Kumba.
I personally got the message while worshipping at PCC Great
Soppo in Buea, where my old friend, the Reverend Pastor Elangwe Namaya
officiated. He is the main Pastor and Chaplain at that station, with the
Reverend Pastor Mbwoge Ngome Paul as his Associate.
According to the signatories, church statistics show that the
PCC has a total of 400 pastors today, 70 evangelists and 76 retired pastors.
The two men go on to point out very strongly that according to those
statistics, distribution of pastors according to different parameters is as
follows:
-
One
pastor to 5 congregations
-
One
pastor to 3000 adult communicant Christians
-
One
pastor to 504 students in PCC Secondary Schools
-
One
pastor to 3-4 CYF groups, to 50 members
-
One
pastor to 31 CWF groups, to 150 CWF members
-
One
pastor to 2 CMF groups, to 20 CMF members
-
One
pastor to 210 Sunday school pupils, to 40 YPs.
The specific areas in which the new pastors
are required are stated by Ba Nkom Raymond Gwanyalla and Elder Dr. G. Assam as
outreach evangelism (Great Commission), prisons ministry and hospital
chaplaincy.
