You can now
read my book entitled `Say No to AIDS` (Non au Sida) online free of charge. You
can even do so on your laptop or on your telephone, wherever you are and
whenever you like.
The
publication contains easy-to-read poems in English and French, with each of the
two languages having about half of the total number of poems in the collection.
However, no poem was translated from one language into the other. When I
thought in English, I wrote in English; and when I thought in French, I wrote
in French. The book has attracted readers from the primary school right up to
university and beyond, which is why the Cameroon Ministry of Secondary
Education has selected it as a text book for HIV AIDS education in the
country`s schools. However, its contents
equally apply to other members of society such as out-of-school youths and
adults.
The publication
is divided into five sections: Voluntary Testing and Counseling; Care of the
Infected; Support for the Affected; Living with AIDS; and Prevention. Each poem
picks up the HIV AIDS story from a different angle. Examples include poems
which talk about the following: the need to do the AIDS test, what women should
do to prevent mother-to-child transmission, a girl who watches her boyfriend
die of HIV AIDS and then dies later from it too; an innocent fourteen year-old
boy who overhears his mother talking about his HIV AIDS test results; a dying
boy who pleads with his junior brother to give him a good dance for him to see
before he dies; people contemplating the havoc that HIV AIDS has caused to
their communities; and the hope that one day a cure will be found.
