PRIMARY CHILDREN
SEE BAFUT CULTURE
Some 40
children on a tour of touristic sites organized by the North West Regional
Delegation of Leisure Activities and Tourism came face to face with Bafut
culture recently.
When the
children who came from 14 schools arrived at the Bafut Fon`s palace, they were
shown round by the Queen Mother, Ma Constance Azombi. They were shown tombs of
criminals who were deliberately buried alive in those years when burial alive
was punishment for people caught committing adultery. However, the Queen Mother
explained that such practice had long been abandoned because of respect for
human rights and the im[act of Christianity. Instead, animals such as sheep and
goats are used to appease the gods nowadays.
The pupils
also visited the Royal Museum which has been classified as a UNESCO site.
There, they saw artefacts and relicts that included leopard`s skin, weapons and
skulls of German whom the Bafut captured in the days of the colonial struggle.
The Post
newspaper has quoted the North West Regional Delegate for Leisure Activities,
Philip Pezumbia, who initiated the visit as saying it fell squarely in line
with the chosen theme of the excursion which is "learning while
playing."
