This article was published in the Autumn 1998 edition of the London-based AIMET magazine where I worked as Editor in Chief and Managing Editor from 1996 to 2000. The story was part of a supplement the magazine did on Cameroon in that issue.

A group of young men held an audience spell bound at the Yaounde Hilton Hotel recently when they launched their debut audio cassette. Known as the Flavour Drops, the six, two of whom are graduates from the University of Yaounde and the other four currently studying at the same university, got the audience on their feet as they performed song after song from their acapella collection. The term, “acapella” refers to harmony music without instrumental backup.

The album contains ten titles: Rock of Ages, So High So Low, Cool December Night, Never, Praise His Name, Hush, Joy, Amazing Grace, I`ll Give All, and Jonan. The group comprises Charles Ewang, Tabot Nsem Ndip, Focho Akoachere, Rudolph Asu, Jamm Rudolph and Rudolph Mbuma. The boys` talent is so remarkable that they could match some of the best choral groups in Britain and the United States. In fact, the composition is a must for anyone hungry OR thirsty for music that is soothing and pleasing.

The cassette costs CFA 1,500. Further details can be obtained from : Violet Asu, Executive Producer, C/O The Prime Minister`s Office, Star Building, Yaounde. Tel: 2222 8637.
